SAN FRANCISCO and WASHINGTON, November 15, 2022 -- Osso VR, now the largest and fastest-growing virtual reality (VR) company in healthcare, and the American College of Cardiology (ACC), a global nonprofit dedicated to transforming cardiovascular care, today announced a new collaboration to develop an immersive, VR-enabled training program for cardiovascular professionals.
The collaboration builds upon the ACC’s long tradition of educational excellence and will support more than 56,000 cardiovascular professionals with state-of-the-art procedural training from Osso VR to guide learning, track performance, and analyze procedures on-demand. Osso VR’s award-winning training and assessment platform accelerates learning by enabling opportunities for medical professionals to repeat, practice and improve their skills in real-life operating room scenarios.
"The ACC values innovation as a critical component in the transformation of global cardiovascular care. The integration of immersive technology will ensure our clinicians have the most advanced tools at their disposal,” said Ami Bhatt, MD, FACC, ACC Chief Innovation Officer. “Through our collaboration with Osso VR, we’re providing a powerful learning environment that will democratize access to advanced education and allow care providers to flourish in their field, bringing leading-edge cardiac procedures to more patients.”
The ACC is one of a number of healthcare organizations utilizing Osso VR’s collaborative and evidence-based platform to train medical professionals remotely, addressing many of today’s in-person challenges such as conflicting clinician schedules, staffing shortages, travel expenses, and the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. With Osso VR, a higher number of practitioners can learn complex medical technologies more rapidly to provide patients safer, more effective procedures.
“Hands-on, real-world training elevates a clinician’s experience and education so that they can provide the highest quality care to their patients,” said Michael Spooner MD, FACC, co-chair of the ACC Simulation Workgroup. “Providing an immersive, virtual reality experience that allows real-life procedural training in a remote and on-demand experience is a game changing technology that expands the boundaries of education from a purely cognitive domain to now an immersive, psychomotor experience. Ultimately it can allow clinicians to better train for real-world situations and challenges.”
Osso VR and the ACC view the collaboration as a new precedent for the future of medical training and see a tremendous opportunity to scale cutting-edge, minimally-invasive heart procedures around the world.
“Never has virtual reality been a more powerful or viable approach for nurturing highly-trained medical professionals and promoting better surgical outcomes," said Justin Barad, MD, co-founder and CEO of Osso VR. “We’re honored to partner with the ACC to develop a leading-edge training program for cardiovascular professionals so that every patient across the world has access to the safest, most advanced cardiac procedures available.”
The American College of Cardiology envisions a world where innovation and knowledge optimize cardiovascular care and outcomes. As the professional home for the entire cardiovascular care team, the mission of the College and its more than 56,000 members is to transform cardiovascular care and to improve heart health. The ACC bestows credentials upon cardiovascular professionals who meet stringent qualifications and leads in the formation of health policy, performance standards and practice guidelines. The College also provides professional medical education, disseminates cardiovascular research through its world-renowned JACC Journals, operates national clinical data registries to measure and improve care, and offers cardiovascular accreditation to hospitals and institutions.
