    • Justin Barad, MD

      Justin is a board-eligible orthopedic surgeon with a Bioengineering degree from UC Berkeley, and an MD from UCLA, where he graduated first in his class. He completed his residency at UCLA and his fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Harvard and Boston Children’s Hospital.

      Justin originally wanted to be a game developer. When a personal family health incident introduced him to the world of healthcare, he decided to find a way to combine his passions and use his technology background to solve medical problems. During his residency, he identified what could be one of the most pressing medical challenges of this century: how we are training our surgeons. With a strong interest in gaming and a first-hand understanding of the challenges facing residents and experienced doctors, he co-founded Osso VR with a mission to improve patient safety and democratize access to modern surgical techniques.

      Justin wrote about medical technology as an editor at Medgadget for over a decade. He has spoken at multiple conferences including TEDMED, CES, Exponential Medicine, and Health 2.0. He also currently serves as a member of the Consumer Technology Association’s Health and Technology Fitness Division Board of Directors.

After graduating, she worked as a junior designer at two Korean animation companies in the cities of Seoul and Uiwang. She decided to study abroad to further educate herself in a complementary field of art and illustration and earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. During her studies at RISD Insil began to pursue her a career in medical illustration and as a freelance artist in Boston, she produced two illustrations for covers of the scientific journals Nature and Cell. She received a Master of Art degree at Medical and Biological Illustration program in the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. For her thesis project, she created a VR simulation app that trains users in an autopsy brain removal procedure.
